Pink Month: Breast Cancer Awareness at FADA Mission

October is Pink Month, and no one should face breast cancer alone. This month, FADA Mission International joins the global movement for breast cancer awareness, with a simple message for every woman in our community: early action saves lives.

Watch our awareness reel below.

The reality in Cameroon

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in Cameroon. According to Ministry of Health documentation (March 2025), about one in two cases is diagnosed at an advanced stage, when treatment is hardest and outcomes are poorest.

There is hope

Caught early, breast cancer is highly treatable. Staff at Yaoundé’s gynaecology hospital state that nine out of ten early-stage cases can be cured. The difference between an early diagnosis and a late one is, quite literally, the difference between life and death.

Know the signs

Check yourself regularly and watch for these warning signs:

  • A lump or thickening in the breast, often painless
  • A change in the size or shape of the breast
  • Dimpling or puckering of the skin
  • Changes to the nipple, including discharge or inversion

Most lumps are not cancer. But every lump deserves a check by a health worker.
